Who actually attends an Ayahuasca Retreat?

by Avalon

After 20 years of experience and numerous encounters, I would categorize participants into the following groups:

  1. Adventurers
  2. The Curious and those who feel a call of the heart
  3. People seeking healing
  4. Those who want to learn from the plant or from Mother Ayahuasca

Just for starters, I count myself among those who wish to learn. Over the years, Mother Ayahuasca has made me a better person and helped me navigate the toughest milestones in my life—a true blessing!

Starting with the adventurers

There are many types of adventures to experience, and Ayahuasca is simply part of the collection of adventures for some. Indeed, I have undergone several adventures and initiations myself and am deeply grateful for the transformations they have prompted. But why is it an adventure? The adventure lies in being confronted with yourself, not knowing what you are getting into. It's like a leap into the unknown. You access depths of your soul that are unreachable in everyday states. Depending on how well-prepared you are, the experience can be intense or enlightening. Whatever you experience, it's always a leap in consciousness, and your soul flourishes.

But what about the harsh experiences some report? I see two possibilities: either you have (probably unconsciously) done something in this or another life that Mother shows you, revealing its impacts when you can see beyond the veils of human existence. A lesson needs to be learned and integrated. Or, there are areas within your consciousness that have been metaphorically locked away and begun to decay, mold, stink, and crumble. Opening and airing out these rooms means initially releasing a lot of stench. Regardless, you confront yourself, and whether or not you like what you see/perceive, it is up to you to do the inner work or run away from it. So to all adventurers: what do you choose? Are you ready to face every challenge? What is your limit, where do you start to retreat?

Moving on to the curious and those who feel the call of the heart

The name Ayahuasca is now quite well-known, and more and more people are fascinated by the beautiful, profound, and life-changing experiences. Perhaps you are intrigued by others' reports and want to see what it's like for yourself? This too is part of the call of the heart. If your heart sings, then do it. If you belong to this category, the journey will be worth it for you.

Continuing to those seeking healing

There are also people who have been dealing with an issue for many years or may even have been written off by conventional medicine. If you belong to this group, Mother Ayahuasca is a good path and usually does not conflict with other treatments. Although a lot of healing can happen during the first retreat, my personal experience is that the desired full healing doesn't always occur immediately. Healing is a path, not just a single step. One should not expect to just drink Ayahuasca and have everything fixed, though it can happen. Hope is okay. On the other hand, I know no one who has continued on this path and regretted it. Staying the course is worthwhile, even if it can be intense and challenging.

And then we have those who want to learn

I believe anyone who walks this path for an extended time will eventually become a learner. Eventually, your lust for adventure ends, your illness is healed, but you can ALWAYS learn, and the initiations never cease. What can you actually learn? Primarily, you learn to become a better person. Mother Ayahuasca clearly shows you your actions and decisions in everyday life and guides you to improve, if you are open to it. Moreover, you can learn anything you wish; the limits of your imagination are boundless, and you gain access to cosmic knowledge and receive what you need. Setting a clear and precise intention is important. An intention is like a seed; it can only bloom if you plant it. And not every seed will sprout, depending on how fertile the soil of your consciousness is.

So much for my personal insights from countless retreats... if you find yourself in one of these categories, you are warmly invited to join the next retreat from June 6-9 in Niederösterreich. Below you'll find links to upcoming dates 💖💖💖
